Rebellion Week Protest (October 2019)

On Tuesday 12th October 2019 local activists from Transition Monaghan and other groups staged a “die in” at The Diamond as a local action during Rebellion Week. A “die in” is a peaceful protest where participants lie on the ground for a period of time symbolizing humanity’s future fate if we don’t act on the climate crisis asap.

The demands of Rebellion Week are simple:

1. TELL THE TRUTH (Government must tell the truth by declaring a climate and ecological emergency, working with other institutions to communicate the urgency for change)

2. ACT NOW (Government must act now to halt biodiversity loss and reduce greenhouse gas emissions to net zero by 2025)

3. BEYOND POLITICS (Government must create and be led by the decisions of a Citizens’ Assembly on climate and ecological justice)

A message from the activists:

Monaghan County Council we think it is time to declare a climate emergency and act accordingly. It is time to Rebel for Life…the life of your citizens and the life of all the species that make up our local biodiversity. Help us find the way forward to a sustainable and Earth-friendly Monaghan on a planet that is healthy and habitable by all specie
