T’M’ trip to Síolta Chroí October 2021

Transition Monaghan members converged on Síolta Chroí outside Carrickmacross to see how the regenerative farm is progressing. We were blessed with a cool dry day to take the tour and chat to the owners, Karen and Gareth (also Transition Monaghan members).

Síolta Chroí is an non-for profit co-operative which has been formed by a group of individuals who are concerned about the environmental crisis. Regeneration of the farm is at the core of what they do: growing their own range of annual and perennial crops as well as keeping a flock of free range chickens fed with only the finest organic ingrediants. Lamas are also kept for wool and their ability to cycle nutrients on the grasslands. Karen and Gareth (with the aid of many helpers) have planted hundreds of trees throughout the farm to begin the slow process of improving windbreaks and improving biodiversity. We were all greatly impressed by their vision and much appreciated their generosity with their time and tea and biscuits. We hope to return in Summer 2022 for a volunteer day.
